It’s About Time You Learned Your Roots.

Standard

That’s what my sister said to me when I asked her a question.

Like when I went to my father’s funeral and asked what the flag was on his coffin.

If you had seen the look I got from my family, it would have made your blood run cold.

You see my family are from Barbados.

What made them want to come here, where it’s freezing cold and you’ll be lucky if you see the sun.

I know it wasn’t always like that when I was a kid which is many moons ago now.

Summers where summers, and it actually got pretty hot too.

But that was then and this is now.

But when I think of ‘Roots’ I remember the film.

Do you?

I used to think how cruel people can be to others, but then we weren’t really known as people, according to ‘them’ we were worse than animals.

As I got older, I realized that people were scared, they don’t like change. My parents were brought over here to do jobs that others didn’t want to do.

But now there are no jobs, they are blaming us for taking their jobs, which isn’t true some people just got a touch of lazyitase and couldn’t be bothered to work.

Remember the streets of London United Kingdom are paved with ‘Gold’.

That’s what my parents and thousands of other parents from the Caribbean were told.

But my parents weren’t told there would be no room at the Inn not for them anyway because of the color of their skin.

When I was little, I remember when I used to walk the streets of Reading with my parents looking for somewhere else to live because we had been kicked out again.

The signs taped to the windows something like this:

  • No Children
  • No Irish
  • No Dogs
  • No Blacks

There was a lot of signs like that, it seemed it was ok for my parents to come here and work like dogs for little money, but we weren’t allowed to live in houses.

That’s what roots made me think of, I am now finding the truth about my roots after all the lies we were told as children at school.

I am very proud of my roots, and the more I am finding out the more I love my roots.

Do You Ever Get Fed Up?

Standard

I expect you do, I know I do.

You write what you think is a good blog post, you publish it, it has taken you two hours and you’ve put your all into it.

What happens?

Nothing!

  • No Followers
  • No Likes

You feel like you’ve failed.

What do you have to do to get noticed?

You get told time and time again, follow your hero’s.

Leave comments on their blogs.

You do that and still nothing.

And in this sea, that’s called the internet, how are you suppose to get noticed.

I’ve heard it can take years, and even then it might not happen.

But, yet there is light at the end of the tunnel, that blog post that you forgot about, has now gone viral.

Well, it took some time but you finally got noticed.

After all the hard work and the blogging and sharing.

You’ve finally got noticed.

Now you must live up to what your followers and clients expect of you, you promised the best now give it to them.

Give them one hundred and ten percent.

You’ve promised now deliver.

I got my inspiration from Opinionated Man

His laid back attitude and his honest opinion make me laugh and cry because he is such a good blogger, but I don’t think he realizes it.

He has inspired me to keep on trying to get my words out there.

Thank you opinionated man.

Veronica.

Are you ready?

Well here we go I am blogging again.

I am going to try to make this a habit, writing every week.

This has been a life long dream to just sit at home on my computer and just write, but some days I find I have nothing to say, nothing that makes any sense anyway.

Then I came onto WordPress, and I have met a lot of lovely people on here, I read their blogs, I enjoy what they have to say.

Some make me cry, others make me laugh so hard I nearly fall off my chair.

It’s nice that you can come on here and read other blogs, you get help and advice you couldn’t ask for anything more, except one day I would like to be paid for my words.

At times it can be heartbreaking though, because you write your little socks off, and it’s as if you are talking in an empty room, no one responds to you.

Writing I think is lonely enough without people ignoring you.

But what can you do?

Keep on trying never give up, even though sometimes you feel like throwing in the towel.

We all have to start somewhere so why not here on WordPress

The advisors are friendly, and they never make you feel stupid.

So keep going and don’t give up.

I will see you next week if not before.

Fry?

Standard

fry

Fry what I hear you ask, after all frying food is not all that pc these days.

It’s healthy this and healthy that.

What happened to having a good old fried egg.

Well you can still have a fried egg, but less all the grease, use ‘Fry light’.

You spray it into a non-stick pan after you have heated up the pan first.

Then you can have your fried egg or bacon as long as you trim the fat off the bacon.

My partner and I have been going to slimming world.

And we have each lost 2 stone, and we are very happy, we’ve still got quite a way to go but we are getting there.

So yes you can still ‘Fry’ as long as you use Fry light.

You can use fry light in most of your food that you are cooking, and it tastes delicious.

So go ahead fry your food, it’s still very healthy.

Does Your Opinion Matter?

Standard

Sometimes, I don’t think your opinion matters but other times it does.

An honest opinion is great but it can hurt, you have to have a thick skin to be a writer as people can say the most awful things, and once it’s out there you can’t take it back.

And that leads to trouble, so if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all, especially if your words will deeply offend someone if that’s what you think and your words are deeply offensive then keep your gob shut.

You can display your opinion in more thoughtful words, offer advice rather than slander.

Offer a shoulder to cry on, rather than just push someone away, they’ve reached out to you as a friend don’t disappoint them and push them away.

I found the opinionated man’s post insightful and telling it like it is, I enjoy his posts very much there are more posts I enjoy but that can be for another post I am sure.
